Casting Doctor Who . . .

I think you need check boxes instead of radio buttons, since both gender and Britishness are important.

Well, the idea was to see what bothered people most, and what they most wanted to see. When the answers are inadequate they can qualify them in comments, and boy have they!

Importance of Britishness seems to be beating out importance of gender. And people don't care a lot about race.

I clicked that it didn't matter, whatever, so long as it was done right.

But I do realize that a lot of the charm of the series comes from it being British SF. Apparently both Brits and non-Brits feel this way about it. Putting a non-Brit in the lead role might or might not fatally compromise that.

Torchwood does just fine with John Barrowman in the lead, but then he's sort of bicultural.
