Christmas carols

"A child, a child shivers in the cold, let us bring him silver and gold"

Do you really think that would help?

If it covers a motel room, yeah, it probably would help. Or pays to have the heat turned back on.

Considering the lack of room at the inn, and the current tenancy in a stable, a blanket just seems a more practical gift for dealing with the immediate problem. Or firewood. Ah well, poetic liscence.

All they knew was that they were going to the birth of a king - not where he was. So, yeah, poetic license in the song. :-)

As a father, I can assure you - silver and gold are perfectly acceptable gifts to present to a newborn. There's all sorts of expenses, like stable fees, swaddling cloths, and mom is going to require a larger burro for the little Messiah now - send gold, and plenty of it! :)

I'm in no denial that the silver and gold are a great idea, for the future. I just don't see how they'll warm the newborn up any that night.

...in the morning, they found the tiny frozen body, still clutching the golden pots of frankincense and myrrh.

Exactly. Well, that would explain them bringing funerary perfumes.
