Maximum work frustration. Can't talk about it right now, but when I escape from the office tonight, I REALLY need to relax. I'll start with picking up this week's comic books.

Take the long way home...
Good plan.

Have you ever taken a drive through Lilydale, along the river? Just go West on Plato, and keep going up past Harriet Island. It comes out over by I-35e, and it's way more relaxing than going through downtown. It's a really pretty drive, past the caves and such. Leave now while it's still light out and you still have some sanity (I hope.)

Good luck.

Re: Take the long way home...
I'll do that if you can give me directions that are guaranteed to get me to Snelling without getting lost.

and not that windy-road bit of snelling way down south, either! I'm ultimately going to Snelling and Larpenteur, to St. Paul's best comic book store.

Re: Take the long way home...
Yup. Those directions will get you there. Turn Right on snelling there by O'Garas. You'll know right where you are.

Re: Take the long way home...
Piece of cake:

Once you've gotten to the end of Lilydale Road, it comes out on Hwy 13 right at the junction of Hwy 13 and 35e. Cross the river on 35e, and the fourth exit will be Ayd Mill Road. Take Ayd Mill all the way to the end, which is Selby Ave. Turn Right on Selby, and the stop light is Snelling. In fact, it's just like how you would go home from my old apartment where I lived with Redherring.

So Plato turns into Lilydale, then intersects with 35E? The rest is indeed familiar.

Re: Take the long way home...
Right. Plato kinda ends down at the entrance to the park. Keep going up river. Just follow the river. Follow the road when you get to the Yacht Club - you'll see how it turns left, goes up the hill and connects to 13. Left on 13, and a prompt left will put you onto 35e Northbound.

Re: Take the long way home...
I gave it a try, and I did not get lost (like I did last time I tried to go somewhere via lilydale rd) , and it was pretty, but it was slow. In good traffic I could drive to Dinkytown on 52 and 94 in the time it takes me to drive home by that route. But its good to know about it. Some days, it'll be just the thing.

Re: Take the long way home...
Oh yeah - I didn't say it was quick. Just pretty and restful. It's nice on summer days or fall evenings when the trees are turning. My brother used to take me down there in his 4x4 pickup truck to go "Booney Bashin'" in the springtime down in the river bottoms. I'm sure that was all kinds of destructive to the environment, and all those old trails are gone now. Good times, tho. :)
