I know I have posts full of grumbling about work sometimes, so here's a happy work post. I came back to work today after a few days off to find a large pile of work, but also:

A statement on the progress of my 401K showed up today, and it's good to see a reminder that the money I have them take out of my paychecks (to take maximum advantage of matching contributuions) is adding up and growing.

The other thing was that after over a year of working in a giant cubicle on the pressroom floor (since the company's latest move) which I shared with a co-worker (not that I minded that bit, Chris and I are great friends), I'm about to get an office! Walls, a ceiling, a door, a window (though it just looks out onto the pressroom floor) and all my own! I will be able to get away from the noise of the presses, and that of co-worker's radios on stations I wouldn't choose (Not Chris, we always approve each other's music, but stuff loudly seeps in from elsewhere). Ah, peace and quiet.

I know I'm just getting that room because it's the convenient arrangement of the space at the moment, just as the cubicle was previously. It's not being done to please me. But still, I'm happy. Now I just need to be vigilant that my workspace doesn't get arranged stupidly in there, or can be fixed if it is (Five computers with different functions, and a couple output devices). Well, the guy who runs the ethernet wires is a friend, too.

Having your own office is awesome! They'll have to pry me out of my office with a swarm of angry bees, rabid dogs and television evangelists. I'll never go back! never!! :)

The key is to become so deeply entrenched in the space, that they can never visualize doing anything else with that space. That's the strategy I use, and so far, it's been working for me.
