Today at work . . .

I happened to look at the "vacation available" line on my paystub today, for the first time in awhile, and realized I have about FOUR WEEKS of vacation available (to use between now and next March) Frankly, I thought I'd have a lot less. I must have hit one of those points in seniority where I get more vacation (been working there 7+ years now).

On the other hand, today was Jim's last day. He left to run his own company, sort of (bought the Woodbury franchise of Signarama). He will be missed both as an important part of keeping things running, and as one of my best work buddies. We've been working together for those 7+ years, and he would sometimes joke that he saw more of me than he did of his wife.

Even before Jim left, it was already difficult for everyone when I took time off work. I can't easily just leave for a week or two. Now it will be even worse. There are things that only Jim and I know how to do, that I will have to show to others.

Well, I like to take my vacations in smaller bits anyway, it seems to maximize the benefit since I get more of them that way. But clearly I get to take a lot more of them! Yay! Gotta plan that camping trip, and I can take some time off when I move.

I can't even tell you how much I'm looking forward to the BWCA trip. I have to check, but I think I have about 14-15 days saved up right now, and only 5 roll over into next year.

Have you ever paddled Minnehaha creek from Minnetonka to Hiawatha? We could rent a canoe, park a car at Hiawatha, and drive out to Minnetonka. It's only about a 20 mile canoe trip, if I remember correctly. I haven't actually done it myself, but I want to. There are only a couple of portages along the way.

I'm still sorting out the plan, but I think the BWCA trip will start on Sat. Aug 5 and be 4-5 days.

What? We still haven't paddled Minnehaha Creek? It's been like 4.5 years since I posted this!
